Chiefs Sign Star Wide Receiver to Record-Breaking Contract Extension
The Kansas City Chiefs have secured their offensive future by signing All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to a five-year, $140 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. The deal, announced Monday morning, includes $85 million guaranteed and will keep the explosive playmaker in Kansas City through the 2030 season.
Hill, who was set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, expressed his excitement about remaining with the defending Super Bowl champions. "This organization has been like family to me," Hill said during a press conference at Arrowhead Stadium. "Getting to continue playing alongside Patrick [Mahomes] and this incredible group of guys for years to come is a dream come true."
The 32-year-old receiver is coming off another dominant season, recording 1,425 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns while helping lead the Chiefs to their third championship in five years. His speed and chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes have been instrumental in Kansas City's sustained success, and the organization made it clear that retaining Hill was their top priority this offseason.
"Tyreek is not just one of the best players in the league, he's one of the best teammates and leaders we have," said Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach. "His impact goes far beyond the statistics. He's a game-changer who makes everyone around him better, and we're thrilled to have him as a Chief for life."
The contract surpasses the previous record held by DeVonta Smith, who signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Hill's deal also includes performance incentives that could push the total value to $150 million, cementing his status as one of the NFL's elite receivers.
With Hill locked up long-term, the Chiefs now turn their attention to other key free agents, including defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. The team's ability to retain their core players while managing the salary cap will be crucial as they aim to build a dynasty in Kansas City.
