Haye Warns Joshua and Fury Are Destined to Meet - Both Need Each Other
Former cruiserweight champion David Haye has insisted Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury cannot avoid each other forever, declaring both boxers are missing what the other can provide to resurrect their careers.
Watch the highlights:
Speaking on the heels of Fury's recent activities outside the ring and Joshua's continued climb back up the heavyweight rankings, Haye believes the British super-fight is inevitable despite years of failed negotiations.
"These two need each other," Haye stated. "Joshua needs the name, the global profile. Fury needs the opponent who can actually sell a fight outside of just UK audiences. They've circled each other for years, but eventually, the fans get what they want."
Fury, who remains the WBC heavyweight champion, has been linked to fights against Oleksandr Usyk and other contenders but has yet to commit to any definitive bout. Joshua, meanwhile, has rebuilt his reputation with back-to-back victories after losing his unified titles to Usyk in 2021.
The proposed Joshua-Fury showdown has been discussed extensively over the past five years, with both camps failing to reach agreement on multiple occasions. Financial demands, managerial disagreements, and scheduling conflicts have all been cited as obstacles to the mega-fight.
"The business side is complicated, but the sporting side is simple," Haye explained. "Both men want to be remembered as the best of their generation. You can't claim that without beating the other guy. The pressure is only going to grow."
Joshua is currently scheduled to return to the ring in mid-2026, though his opponent has not been confirmed. Fury has suggested he may retire after one or two more fights, adding urgency to any potential negotiations.
With the heavyweight division in a state of flux following Usyk's dominance, boxing fans continue to clamor for what would be the biggest British boxing match in decades. Haye believes the time for waiting has passed.
"The window is closing. Both Joshua and Fury know it. The question isn't if they'll fight—it's when they'll finally stop talking and get it done."
