Rangers close gap on Celtic with 2-0 victory at St Mirren
Ryan Naderi and Dan Neil scored as Rangers moved within a point of Celtic and extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches. Hibernian's 4-0 win at Aberdeen also changed the standings near the bottom.

Rangers moved within one point of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic after beating St Mirren 2-0 in Paisley on Saturday. Ryan Naderi and Dan Neil supplied the goals as Derek McInnes's team extended their unbeaten sequence across all competitions to 12 matches, according to a Press Association report published by the Guardian.

Watch the highlights:

Naderi converted a penalty in the 18th minute to put the visitors ahead. Returning captain Neil then scored with a deflected effort shortly after the hour. The victory followed draws at Dundee and Hearts in Rangers' previous two away league fixtures, giving them a win on the road before the international break.

The result brought Rangers to within a point of Celtic with both clubs having played the same number of matches at that stage. Celtic could re-establish a four-point advantage by defeating Kilmarnock at home on Sunday. Rangers' victory therefore reduced the gap without changing the identity of the league leaders.

Elsewhere, Hibernian won 4-0 at Aberdeen to move above their opponents into 10th place on goal difference. Hibs had started the evening three points behind the hosts. Jack Milne was denied by goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger and also hit the crossbar for Aberdeen, but goals from Jamie McGrath, Callum Wright, Thibault Klidje and Nicky Cadden gave the visitors a decisive victory at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson described both the performance and result as unacceptable, according to the report, while saying he would continue working to change the team's situation. The defeat sent Aberdeen into the international break below Hibernian after a match in which early opportunities for the home side were followed by a dominant second-half display from their opponents.

Dundee United and Motherwell drew 1-1 at Tannadice. Lukas Fadinger put Motherwell ahead from a penalty awarded after referee Ryan Lee reviewed Dylan Tait's challenge on Tawanda Maswanhise at the pitchside monitor. Jesse Randall equalised for United. Home manager Jim Goodwin criticised the penalty decision afterwards, while Motherwell counterpart Alfred Johansson defended the award.

St Johnstone completed the day's other reported victory by beating Dundee 2-1. Josh Campbell headed them ahead after five minutes before substitute Joe Westley equalised early in the second half following a mix-up between Ross Sinclair and Cheick Diabate. Kai Fotheringham, making his first Premiership start for St Johnstone, scored the winner with a deflected shot in the 72nd minute.
