FaZe Clan Defeats G2 Esports 3-1 to Claim IEM Katowice Championship Title
FaZe Clan captured their first major championship of 2026 Tuesday evening, defeating G2 Esports 3-1 in the grand final of IEM Katowice to claim the prestigious Counter-Strike title and $400,000 prize at the Spodek Arena in Poland.
The international roster, led by in-game leader Finn "karrigan" Andersen, showed exceptional tactical preparation and individual brilliance throughout the best-of-five series. Håvard "rain" Nygaard was the standout performer for FaZe, posting a 1.31 rating across the four maps while consistently delivering crucial opening frags and clutch plays.
"This feels incredible," karrigan said during the trophy ceremony. "We've been working so hard as a team, and to finally get our first big win of the year at such a legendary tournament means everything. The crowd here in Katowice was absolutely amazing."
The series began with G2 taking their pick on Inferno 16-14, with Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov showcasing his exceptional AWP skills. However, FaZe responded immediately on Ancient, dominating 16-8 behind a masterful tactical display that saw them execute perfect site takes and post-plant situations.
FaZe's momentum continued on Mirage, where they secured a convincing 16-11 victory despite a late G2 comeback attempt. Robin "ropz" Kool was instrumental on the map, recording 24 frags while anchoring the defense and making crucial impact frags during FaZe's T-side rounds.
The deciding map was Dust2, where FaZe closed out the championship with a 16-13 victory in front of the raucous Polish crowd. Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken delivered when it mattered most, securing multiple multi-kill rounds that sealed the victory and sent the FaZe faithful into celebration.
The victory marks FaZe Clan's return to elite form after a challenging start to 2026, and positions them as serious contenders heading into the upcoming Major championship. With their confidence restored and team chemistry at an all-time high, karrigan's squad appears ready to challenge for multiple titles throughout the remainder of the year.
