Swiatek Powers Through to Dubai Championships Quarterfinals in Straight Sets
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the Dubai Tennis Championships quarterfinals.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her dominant start to the 2026 season on Sunday, defeating former US Open champion Emma Raducanu 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The Polish star needed just 79 minutes to dispatch the British player in a clinical display that showcased why she remains the player to beat on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek was relentless from the opening game, using her signature heavy topspin forehand to push Raducanu around the court and create opportunities to attack. The 24-year-old won 85% of her first-serve points and converted five of her eight break point chances, never allowing her opponent to settle into any rhythm.

"I felt really comfortable out there today," Swiatek said in her on-court interview. "Emma is a fantastic player, but I was able to execute my game plan perfectly. The conditions here in Dubai suit my style of play, and I'm feeling confident heading into the business end of the tournament."

Raducanu, who has been working her way back up the rankings following injury struggles in 2025, showed flashes of the form that carried her to US Open glory several years ago. However, the 23-year-old was unable to match Swiatek's consistency and power, particularly on the crucial points that decided both sets.

The first set was closely contested until Swiatek broke serve in the eighth game, using a combination of aggressive returns and perfectly placed shots to put pressure on the Raducanu serve. From there, the world No. 1 never looked back, dominating the second set with a series of winners that left the crowd in awe.

Swiatek's victory sets up a quarterfinal clash with seventh-seeded Coco Gauff in what promises to be one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. The two players have developed a compelling rivalry over the past few seasons, with Swiatek holding a 7-1 advantage in their head-to-head meetings.

"Playing Coco is always a challenge," Swiatek noted when asked about her upcoming opponent. "She's incredibly athletic and never gives up on any point. I'll need to bring my best tennis if I want to reach another semifinal here in Dubai."

The Dubai Tennis Championships has been a happy hunting ground for Swiatek, who won the title in 2024 and is looking to add another WTA 1000 crown to her already impressive collection. With her current form and confidence level, few would bet against the Polish superstar making another deep run in the desert.
