Lakers Star Scores 50 Points in Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Celtics
LeBron James turned back the clock with a spectacular 50-point performance that led the Los Angeles Lakers to a stunning 118-115 comeback victory over the Boston Celtics at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night. The 41-year-old superstar shot 18-of-29 from the field and hit seven three-pointers in what many are calling one of the greatest individual performances of the 2025-26 season.
Trailing by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, the Lakers looked headed for their third straight loss before James took control of the game. He scored 23 points in the fourth quarter alone, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining that sent the sellout crowd into a frenzy.
"At my age, you never know how many more nights like this you will have," James said after the game. "I just tried to will my team to victory. The crowd was incredible, my teammates believed in me, and sometimes magic happens."
Anthony Davis contributed 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers, who improved to 38-20 on the season and moved within two games of first place in the Western Conference. The victory was particularly sweet as it came against the Celtics, the Lakers longtime rivals who entered the game with the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Jayson Tatum led Boston with 35 points and 8 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Celtics from dropping their second game in three nights. The loss drops Boston to 41-18 and could have implications for playoff seeding as the season enters its final stretch.
"We had them right where we wanted them," Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. "But LeBron is LeBron. He made some incredible shots, and we couldn't get stops when we needed them most. Credit to them for never giving up."
