Jannik Sinner Defeats Andrey Rublev 7-6, 6-4 to Reach Miami Open Semifinals
The Italian star overcame a spirited challenge from the Russian to advance to his second consecutive Miami semifinal in impressive fashion.

Jannik Sinner booked his place in the Miami Open semifinals Wednesday evening at Hard Rock Stadium, defeating Andrey Rublev 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in a high-quality quarterfinal that showcased the next generation of men's tennis at its finest.

The 24-year-old Italian was in complete control throughout the match, using his superior court positioning and tactical awareness to neutralize Rublev's powerful groundstrokes. Sinner consistently found angles and depth that troubled the Russian throughout the one hour and 58-minute encounter, showcasing the maturity and composure that has made him a top-5 player.

"I'm really happy with how I played tonight," Sinner said during his on-court interview. "Andrey is such a dangerous player with that forehand, but I was able to stay patient and execute my game plan. Reaching another Miami semifinal feels incredible, and I'm ready to give everything I have to reach the final."

Sinner's serving was particularly impressive, firing 11 aces while winning 79% of points on his first serve. He saved all four break points he faced while converting two of his five break opportunities, demonstrating the mental toughness that has become his trademark in big matches.

Rublev fought hard but struggled to find his rhythm against Sinner's relentless pressure and defensive skills. The 28-year-old Russian had his moments, particularly in the first-set tiebreak where he held a 4-2 lead, but Sinner won five of the next six points to seize control of the match.

The victory extends Sinner's excellent hard-court form that has seen him win 21 of his last 24 matches on the surface. His combination of power, precision, and court craft continues to make him a formidable opponent when he's healthy and confident, particularly on the faster hard courts.

Sinner will face either Carlos Alcaraz or Taylor Fritz in Friday's semifinal as he seeks his third Masters 1000 title and second of the 2026 season. The young Italian's current form suggests he's ready to challenge for the biggest titles and establish himself as a consistent threat at the sport's premier events throughout the year.
