Edmonton Oilers Force Game 7 with Dramatic 4-3 Overtime Victory Over Dallas Stars in Western Conference Semifinals
Leon Draisaitl scored the overtime winner as the Oilers staved off elimination and forced a decisive seventh game at Rogers Place.

The Edmonton Oilers kept their Stanley Cup dreams alive on Sunday night at American Airlines Center in Dallas, defeating the Stars 4-3 in overtime behind Leon Draisaitl winner at 7:33 of the extra period to force a decisive Game 7 in their Western Conference semifinal series.

Draisaitl was the hero for the visiting Oilers, scoring his second goal of the game with a perfectly placed wrist shot from the slot that beat Jake Oettinger cleanly to the glove side. The German superstar celebration with his teammates demonstrated the relief and elation of a team that had faced elimination for the second consecutive game but refused to surrender their championship aspirations.

We never stopped believing in ourselves even when things looked difficult, Draisaitl said during his post-game interview. This team has incredible character and we have been in these situations before. Connor McDavid and our leadership group kept everyone focused on the task at hand, and tonight we got the bounces we needed to extend this series.

The game was a back-and-forth thriller that featured multiple lead changes and spectacular goaltending from both teams. McDavid recorded two assists to extend his playoff point streak to 12 games, while Stuart Skinner made 34 saves to keep Edmonton competitive despite being outshot significantly by the Stars aggressive forechecking system.

Dallas appeared to be in control after taking a 3-2 lead in the second period through goals from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, but the Oilers responded with renewed urgency in the third period. Zach Hyman tied the game with 8:47 remaining, setting up the dramatic overtime finish that has become a hallmark of this entertaining series.

Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft praised his team resilience and execution after the victory, noting that performances like Sunday demonstrate the kind of playoff experience that championship teams must develop. Our guys showed tremendous character tonight and never wavered despite facing elimination, Woodcroft said. Game 7 at home gives us a great opportunity to advance, but we know Dallas will bring their absolute best effort.

The series returns to Rogers Place on Tuesday night for Game 7, with the winner advancing to face either Colorado or Vegas in the Western Conference Final. Edmonton will have the advantage of home ice and crowd support, but Dallas has proven throughout the series that they are capable of winning in hostile environments when their season is on the line.

With both teams playing at peak intensity and goaltending remaining exceptional, Tuesday Game 7 promises to be a classic encounter that will determine which franchise continues their pursuit of the Stanley Cup championship.
