Jon Jones Confirms Return to Octagon at UFC 295 Following Two-Year Hiatus
Former light heavyweight champion announces comeback fight after extended absence from competition.

Jon Jones, widely regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, officially announced his return to the UFC octagon Tuesday, confirming he will headline UFC 295 on April 12th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after a two-year absence from competition.

The 38-year-old former light heavyweight champion will make his long-awaited heavyweight debut against current interim champion Ciryl Gane in what UFC President Dana White called "the biggest comeback fight in UFC history." Jones vacated his light heavyweight title in 2023 to pursue opportunities at heavyweight but has been sidelined due to contract negotiations and personal issues.

"I'm hungrier than I've ever been," Jones said during a surprise appearance at UFC headquarters in Las Vegas. "Two years away from the sport I love has given me perspective and motivation I didn't know I needed. Ciryl Gane represents everything I need to prove at heavyweight — speed, technique, and power."

Jones (26-1, 1 NC) last fought in February 2023, defending his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes in a controversial unanimous decision. His move to heavyweight has been years in the making, with Jones adding significant muscle mass and working with renowned strength coach Phil Daru to adapt his fighting style.

Gane, who captured the interim heavyweight title with a stunning knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes in December, welcomed the challenge. "Jon Jones is a legend, but legends can be defeated," the French striker said via video message. "I've been waiting for this moment my entire career. April 12th, I prove that the new generation is ready to take over."

The announcement sent shockwaves through the MMA community, with many considering this the most significant heavyweight fight since the Francis Ngannou era. Las Vegas sportsbooks immediately installed Jones as a slight betting favorite despite his extended layoff, testament to his enduring reputation as one of combat sports' most dominant forces.
