Juan Soto Launches Two Home Runs in Padres Spring Training Victory Over Giants 11-4
The superstar outfielder continues his impressive spring preparation with a dominant performance at Peoria Sports Complex.

Juan Soto put on a power display Thursday afternoon at Peoria Sports Complex, launching two home runs to lead the San Diego Padres to an emphatic 11-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants in Cactus League action. The 27-year-old superstar went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, showcasing the form that made him one of the most coveted players during the 2024 trade deadline and reinforcing why the Padres view him as a cornerstone of their championship aspirations.

Soto's first blast came in the third inning, a towering 442-foot shot to left-center field off Giants starter Logan Webb that had scouts and fans alike shaking their heads in amazement. The Dominican slugger added his second home run in the sixth inning, this time a line drive that barely cleared the right field wall but demonstrated his ability to hit for power to all fields.

The performance was particularly encouraging for Padres manager Bob Melvin, who has emphasized the importance of getting Soto comfortable in his approach at the plate following an inconsistent 2025 season. The former Washington Nationals star has looked locked in throughout spring training, hitting .389 with 5 home runs and 12 RBIs across 15 Cactus League games.

"Juan looks as good as I've ever seen him," Melvin said after the game. "His timing is perfect, his plate discipline is outstanding, and you can see the confidence building with each at-bat. When Juan is locked in like this, he's one of the most dangerous hitters in the game. If he can carry this into the regular season, we're going to be a very difficult team to pitch against."

The Padres provided plenty of offensive support beyond Soto's heroics, with Manny Machado contributing a three-run double and rookie Jackson Merrill adding two hits and two stolen bases. The balanced attack was exactly what San Diego hoped to see as they prepare for a season where expectations are sky-high following their aggressive offseason moves.

For the Giants, the loss continued a disappointing spring that has seen their pitching staff struggle with consistency. Webb, who entered the game with a 6.75 ERA this spring, lasted only four innings while allowing six runs on eight hits. The veteran right-hander will need to find his command quickly as the Giants prepare for a challenging NL West division race. With just two weeks remaining until Opening Day, both teams will look to fine-tune their lineups and rotations as they prepare for what promises to be an exciting 2026 season. Soto's continued hot hitting provides optimism that the Padres may finally have the offensive firepower needed to complement their strong pitching staff and compete for their first World Series championship.
