Alpine Skiing World Cup Standings Shake-Up as Odermatt Extends Overall Lead in Wengen
Marco Odermatt delivered another masterclass performance on the slopes of Wengen, securing his third consecutive giant slalom victory of the season and extending his commanding lead in the overall World Cup standings. The Swiss skiing sensation crossed the finish line with a combined time of 2:28.45, nearly half a second ahead of Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen.
The victory marks Odermatt's 15th World Cup win of the season and his 42nd career triumph, further cementing his status as the dominant force in men's alpine skiing. His performance in Wengen was particularly impressive given the challenging conditions, with fog rolling in during the second run that caught several competitors off guard.
Kristoffersen's second-place finish was a welcome return to form for the Norwegian, who had struggled in recent races. "I felt really good on the hill today," Kristoffersen said after the race. "Marco is skiing at an incredible level, but I'm happy to be back on the podium and feeling competitive again."
The third spot went to Austria's Manuel Feller, who put together two solid runs to claim his first podium finish of the season. Feller's performance was especially noteworthy as he had been battling equipment issues in recent weeks that had hampered his results.
With this victory, Odermatt now leads the overall standings with 1,247 points, 147 ahead of France's Cyprien Sarrazin. The Swiss star's dominance has been particularly evident in the giant slalom discipline, where he holds a commanding 280-point advantage over his nearest rival.
