Ishant Sharma was born on September 2, 1988, in Delhi, India, and grew up with aspirations of representing his country in cricket. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, his height became a significant advantage as a fast bowler, generating extra bounce that troubled batsmen throughout his career. He made his first-class debut for Delhi in 2006 at just 17 years old.

Sharma's international breakthrough came in 2007 when he was selected for India's Test squad at age 18. His debut against Bangladesh showed promise, but it was his performance against Australia in 2008 that announced him on the world stage.
